On the Expo Blog: How We Built Doodraw's Rust GPU Engine

In October 2026, Expo published a guest post by Alexis Chân Gridel, founder of Écrin Digital and co-founder and CEO of Doodraw, as part of Doodraw's Expo App Awards submission.

Titled A 30,000-line Rust GPU engine on Expo, and 120,000 installs without ads, the article explains how Doodraw wraps a custom Rust rendering engine on wgpu inside a single Expo app for iPhone, iPad and Android, and runs the same engine on Windows through WebAssembly and WebGPU in a Tauri shell.

It covers Continuous Native Generation with a custom config plugin, one EAS pipeline for both stores, OTA updates with the fingerprint runtime policy, and the numbers behind the launch: 120,000+ installs by 19 October 2026 in 180+ countries, with zero paid ads. It also introduces his co-founder Elodie Mayade.
